Tsotsi, Gavin Hood's moody, minimalist film conveys a South African street thug's moral wake-up call without hamfisted speeches or mawkish violins. A Foreign Language Film Oscar winner, and deservedly so. EXTRAS In his analysis of alternate endings and deleted scenes, Hood admits he nearly succumbed to excessive sentiment, but refrained to keep viewers debating. The commentary explores his trademark wordless sequences and unrelenting focus on characters' eyes (as windows to their underdeveloped souls). Plus: Hood's first short, The Storekeeper, with an even bleaker coda.
