As Superman, Brandon Routh mimics Christopher Reeve's performance, and if Routh isn't nearly as nimble a comedian, he and Kate Bosworth (as Lois Lane) have a puppyish connection that's tapped by a shrewd romantic story. Director Bryan Singer has become a commanding orchestrator of pop spectacle.
