Release Date: Jul 11, 2006; Lead Performance: Soul Asylum; Genre: Rock

In the eight years since their last studio album, Soul Asylum have become an unfortunate grunge-era relic. The 22-year-old outfit attempt to re-create their '90s platinum heyday on The Silver Lining, their ninth effort. The nostalgia train is stalled by embarrassing platitudes (as on first single ''Stand Up and Be Strong'') and well-worn riffs. At their creative peak, the band's rough-hewn '80s material influenced lesser rockers like the Goo Goo Dolls, but this edgeless comeback LP would make you think it was the other way around.
