Much like the nightlife industry he chronicles in Confessions from the Velvet Ropes, Glenn Belverio's take on 29-year-old NYC doorman Thomas Onorato amounts to style over substance. Sure, there are amusing lists of velvet rope Dos and Don'ts, as well as cheeky definitions of the various club-crawler types (e.g., ''Post-Punk Kids,'' ''Self-Entitled White People''). But the mostly C-list anecdotes — starring Kimora Lee Simmons, Nicky Hilton, and Moby, among others — feel recycled from the New York Post's Page Six. Ultimately, the parade of colorful club kids waiting for their chance to hobnob with the fabulous end up being more interesting than the man who decides whether they get in.
