Déjà Vu
The frenzied, hyper-agitated style Tony Scott brings to his films
extends to his trailers. So what can we make out? Denzel is in it, and he may or may not be flip-flopping through time trying to stop a murder. Beyond that? Hard to say. B
Hollywoodland
Maybe Ben Affleck is good, playing Superman star George Reeves in this lush period-noir investigation of the events surrounding his mysterious death. But the fact that, in this trailer anyway, we almost never hear Affleck speak isn't quite reassuring. B-
The Illusionist
It's the attack of the waistcoated men with accents and facial hair! Or, a mystery starring Edward Norton as a magician in thrall to a woman (Jessica Biel) betrothed to a hirsute prince. And Paul Giamatti is some
kind of Euro-cop. Arch fun. B+
Renaissance
I've got no idea what this movie's about: something to do with rebels in a futuristic Paris, I think. But the look of it... Beautifully rendered in stark black-and-white animation Sin City should've looked like this. A-
