''I wanted to make a movie that would make me miss drinking a 40-ounce and pissing on the corner,'' explains punk rocker-turned-auteur Dito Montiel, whose first feature snagged acting and directing awards at this year's Sundance. Based on his memoir of the same name, Saints tells of a bunch of rough, misguided kids growing up in Astoria, Queens, circa 1986. ''F--- that guy [James] Frey!'' he says. ''I hate that word memoir.... The movie took bits and pieces from real life and then built a story around it. I just wanted it to be a film, but the emotions are real.''
