The title may feel biblical, but it will come as a relief to those of you who remember Richard Gere's King David that The Flock is a dark thriller. Gere plays an agent in charge of monitoring paroled sex offenders who begins to suspect that one of his subjects may have abducted a girl. It may sound a little Special Victims Unit, but Gere stresses that director Andrew Lau has put his stamp on this film, much as he did with 2002's Hong Kong cop thriller Infernal Affairs (remade as this fall's The Departed). ''He made [The Flock] as real as possible,'' says Gere, ''but also took chances like he did with Infernal Affairs.''
