Concept A sextet of yearnful New Yorkers lead unexpectedly intertwined lives.

The Scoop After a rewrite from creators Raven Metzner and Stu Zicherman (Elektra), the project — which was originally slated for The WB — landed at ABC. Didn't hurt that the exec producer is J.J. Abrams (Lost). The gem of a cast includes Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as a defense attorney; Erika Christensen (Traffic) as the owner of a mysterious box; Hope Davis (The Matador) as a grieving widow; and Campbell Scott (Roger Dodger) as a recovering-addict photographer. Promises Abrams: ''These characters are wrestling with demons, some more literal than others. [And] unlike Lost, these people are in Manhattan — anything can enter their lives at any time.''

Bottom Line Abrams — who has been regularly giving the writers his notes — knows from interlocked characters with dramatic backstories and a bit of intrigue. (Seriously, what's in the box?!)
