How much does Jessica Simpson heart the '80s? Spinning Public Affair is like mainlining an MTV 25th anniversary special. The first single rips off early Madge; track 2 covers ''You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)''; track 3 samples the Cars; track 4 couldn't resemble Janet's ''When I Think of You'' any more if Simpson skipped through a back-lot streetscape. Later stretches ditch the '80s theme for shrill neo-swing, a ''hoedown'' delivered in her worst Daisy Duke drawl, and modern club grooves...but no Nick-style confessionalism, at least.
