Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera For once, she really did dress for a red carpet—and then went to the wrong awards show. Still, we're loving this body-hugging Versace gown, which is far less goofy than 2003's misguided feather pouf and makes even her tattoo look almost classy.

Fergie Well, it's an improvement over 2004's Rizzo redux. The Burberry hot pants are reliably trashy (and lots of fun), but the bowler hat seems awfully pointless.

Jessica Simpson We prefer 2003's boob-baring blazer to this tacky monstrosity, which is—believe it or not—a vintage Alaia.

Pink Toned down, glammed up, and somewhere in the comfortable middle: With this smart ensemble, Pink finally ended a years-long VMA streak that saw her dressing, as she did in 2001, like a stupid girl.

Jennifer Lopez Once sporty (above in 2000), now just silly: Lopez paired her chic gold lamé Biba minidress with a fusty head wrap. Styling courtesy of Wayland Flowers and Madame.
