The Mission Song (2006)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Writer: John Le Carre; Genres: Fiction, Thriller; Publisher: Little Brown & Company

Shady players whisk a Congo-born interpreter to ''a little island up north where no one will disturb us'' to translate talks over a planned African coup. There he finds his moral compass and sheds his neutrality, with predictably dire consequences.

Femme Fatale
Hannah, a big-hearted and devious African nurse.

Bottom Line
The start is slow and the middle mind-boggling, but pay attention and you'll pick up le Carrè's ingenious tune.
