Setting the third installment of this high-octane/low-IQ franchise in Japan probably sounded like an exotic masterstroke in the pitch meeting. Too bad it didn't die there. In The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, Lucas Black fills the not-very-big shoes of both Vin Diesel and Paul Walker adequately; the racing scenes are cool enough. But the fortune-cookie moral of the story is absurd, basically equating skidding turns (or ''drifting'') with the Meaning of Life. EXTRAS The cast goes to driving school; a profile of real-life ''Drift King'' Keiichi Tsuchiya.
