Around 1980, a youth movement of punks revolted against things like Reagan, wine coolers, and disco with terse songs and fist-swinging live shows. Good Lord, what would they have made of today's surely more infuriating times? Tackling that question, which this documentary doesn't really touch at all, might've sharpened its bite considerably. Apart from that, American Hardcore is illuminating nostalgia, stuffed with all the right tattooed talking heads (like Black Flag's Henry Rollins), plus grim-looking concert footage of wailing skinny guys.
