Ryan Rosetti, a young baseball star who blew out his elbow and now languishes as a house painter, has watched with increasing anger as former rival Jake Thomas has had a lucrative career in the majors. Rosetti hopes to show the millionaire up during a weekend homecoming party by definitively stealing his fiancée with whom Rosetti has been sleeping on the sly though lots of things (seemingly everything, actually) go awry. Because this is a purposefully gritty look at blue-collar Brooklyn, people get beat and shot and run over by cars. But while Lights Out is soaked in testosterone, it ultimately suffers from a cast of frustrated, foolish, and unlikable characters.
