Along with such signature gags as Dr. Cox (John C. McGinley) ''mentoring'' J.D. (Zach Braff) with sundry nicknames like ''un-potty-trained Labradoodle'' and Carla (Judy Reyes) fretting that hubby Turk (Donald Faison) and J.D. will run off to Aspen together, Scrubs kept the comedy alive in season 4 with an '80s-sitcom parody that nabbed an Emmy win.
While Heather Graham (as a spacey psychiatrist) never really got into the show's rhythm, Scrubs 4 delivered a winning lineup of cameos including Molly Shannon as a chatty ambulance driver and Colin Farrell as (here's a stretch) a bar-brawling Irishman. Story lines about J.D.'s and Elliot's (Sarah Chalke) love lives sometimes fall flat — the two docs are funnier as neurotic singles — though J.D.'s masochistic tryst with a malpractice attorney (Julianna Margulies) is a notable exception.
Extras include edifying commentary from Braff and Chalke (who respectfully request that you stop sending letters: They know the opening-credits X-ray is backward), and an Inside Edition-style mockumentary about the mysterious origins of the Janitor (Neil Flynn). A featurette showcases the scene-stealing of secondary characters like flop-sweating lawyer Ted (Sam Lloyd) and McGinley's onscreen (and creator Bill Lawrence's off-screen) wife, Jordan (Christa Miller). The series' consistent hilarity merits a healthy A-.
