When the young, beautiful wife of a Democratic presidential candidate is killed two weeks before Election Day, the blame immediately falls on al-Qaeda. But are terrorists really responsible? And how many people will Mitch Rapp, Vince Flynn's grief-stricken CIA assassin-with-a-heart hero, have to kill, beat up, and/or speak harshly to before uncovering the dastardly truth? The answer to the first is revealed surprisingly early in Act of Treason, a book whose propulsive, skulduggery-filled plot makes up for its clunky prose and almost hallucinogenically rose-tinted view of Pentagon activities. But we can safely reveal the answer to the second query right now: quite a few.
