Are you a naturally paranoid person? Possessed of a fatalistic disposition? A fan of Grey's Anatomy? Heed us when we say this may not be the book for you. What begins as a nice novel about Jemma, a conflicted med student, takes a serious turn for the freaky when a watery apocalypse drowns the entire Earth — save for the children's hospital where she works. Chris Adrian lays out a brave new world that is glorious and miraculous and horrible all at once, where foreboding angels watch over the corridors and closets and ICUs, and nothing can possibly turn out all right. At 480 pages, Children's Hospital is at least a third too long — but you try putting it down. Or getting it out of your head.
