If you only hear the premise, you'll think Sleeping Dogs Lie is a one-joke sick goof — and you'll be wrong. In college, Amy (Melinda Page Hamilton), on a bored whim, has a way-too-close encounter with her dog. Later, she's trapped: She can't tell her fiancé (Bryce Johnson), but without fessing up she knows she's just faking intimacy. The writer-director is Bobcat Goldthwait, who has made a scrappily funny and observant takeoff on the secrets that complete even the ''normal'' among us. Hamilton, in her movie debut, is a find: the kinkstress next door.
