Jack Black's a talented comedian, but his love for pre-'90s hard rock is no joke. His second album with musical sidekick Kyle Gass, The Pick of Destiny which doubles as the soundtrack to their new big-screen adventure makes plenty of room for both foul-mouthed gag lyrics and full-throated homages to the swaggering majesty of Led Zeppelin and Dio. ''Rock is not the devil's work,'' Black cries, ''it's magical and rad.'' Laugh if you like, but he's as convincing as any of today's straight-faced metal revivalists.
