DOGG-ED PERSISTENCE After 2004's disappointing CD, Snoop sounds rejuvenated on Blue Carpet
Snoop Dogg: Anthony Mandler

Until recently, Snoop seemed to be spending more time on licensing dog toys and shooting movies (Soul Plane) than on making music. This multitasking caught up with him on 2004's misnamed R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece, but Blue Carpet finds him refocused and reunited with Dr. Dre on three tracks. The two get nostalgic on standout ''Imagine,'' and the rest of Snoop's eighth solo LP has this old dog taking on his favorite subjects weed, gangs, and ho's with the vigor of a young pup.
