In Wah-Wah, Dad (Gabriel Byrne) is a glass-breaking, gun-waving drunk; Mom (Miranda Richardson) goes parking with her lover while her kid is in the backseat; teenager Ralph (Nicholas Hoult) finds solace in scary marionettes and community theater. Quirky, captivating stuff but not in the hands of actor-turned-auteur Richard E. Grant, whose penchant for melodrama is eclipsed only by his love of overwrought metaphors.
EXTRAS
English subtitles, which don't make lines like ''la-de-da, hoity-toity,
hooty-snooty, wah-wah'' any more lucid. The film's already in English.
