Release Date: Nov 07, 2006; Lead Performance: Karen Dalton; Genre: Folk

Singer Karen Dalton emerged from the '60s Greenwich Village folk scene and was championed by big shots like Bob Dylan, but she died in 1993 without ever finding widespread success. This reissue of her 1971 album, In My Own Time, is an enchanting introduction to the remarkably expressive vocalist. She blended Appalachian twang with fragile, Billie Holiday-style inflections — the way her voice cracks on a cover of The Band's ''In a Station'' is devastating. Dalton transforms the album's traditional Americana and soul tunes to fit her own sorrow-soaked aesthetic.
