The midcentury nature documentaries of Walt Disney's True-Life Adventures were gorgeously filmed explorations of animal and plant life from snowy mountains to baking deserts; eight — including ''The Living Desert'' and ''The Vanishing Prairie'' — even won Oscars. Lively, playful, pitched to kids but nourishing for everyone, with Hibler's soothing narration and discreet, occasional use of animation to enhance the scenery. Hypnotic.
