A
A leading contender for reissue of the year, this two-CD-plus-DVD package boasts 31 tracks, including 13 left off the 2000 reissue. Newly added Carl Perkins and Carter Family songs establish the show as the full country revue that it was. Best, though, is the extra Johnny Cash material, which proves what a brilliantly sincere showbiz manipulator he was all but inciting riots with his rockers and incendiary remarks, then calming the captives with hymns. In a prison-album fight, At San Quentin now definitely beats Folsom.
