If you're among those desperate to know about the beginnings of the romance between Tom Cruise and Penélope Cruz, don't be asking Cameron Crowe, who directed both in the noodle cooking mystery/ thriller/ romance ''Vanilla Sky,'' due in December. ''It feels like that's the world that happened AFTER our movie,'' Crowe tells EW.com. The ''Almost Famous'' director recently returned from a brief vacation to learn, along with the rest of the world, that Nicole Kidman's soon to be ex and the ''All the Pretty Horses'' actress were dating.

But he adds that whatever was cooking between Cruise and Cruz definitely made its way into ''Sky,'' based on the 1998 Spanish film ''Open Your Eyes.'' ''My concern is always the same,'' says Crowe. ''If you're telling a love story, do these people actually fall in love on screen? They did. If that continued into real life, I'm happy for everybody that's happy. What's cool is they had chemistry, and the movie is about a couple with chemistry, or you have no movie.''
