Most studios would commit atrocities in order to hear the words ''Adapted by William Goldman from a novel by Stephen King, directed by 'Shine''s Scott Hicks, and starring Anthony Hopkins.'' No wonder 12-year-old Yelchin (''Along Came a Spider'') felt a tad intimidated by the talent assembled for this coming-of-age tale of a young boy who's befriended by a mysterious boarder (Hopkins). ''My eye started to twitch,'' he says of his first encounter with Sir Anthony. But the real terror was Davis, who plays one mean mother -- albeit one slightly softened in her transition from page to screen.
''[In the book] she tosses her son across the room at one point,'' says the ''Arlington Road'' actress. ''Of course, we don't do that in the film because...well, wait till you see this child. You can't go throwing him around the room. If he were a nasty, snotty-nosed brat, maybe. But not this little guy.''
