PASSING NOTES Kim Stanley was more celebrated for her Broadway roles than her film career, but her few movie roles were memorable ones. After establishing herself as a top dramatic actress in the '50s in the work of Tennessee Williams (''Cat on a Hot Tin Roof'') and William Inge (''Bus Stop,'' ''Picnic''), she turned down offers to reprise her roles on film, but she did win Oscar nominations for two of the five movies she made, 1963's ''Seance on a Wet Afternoon'' and 1982's ''Frances.'' She taught acting in New Mexico, where she died of cancer on Monday at 76....

U2's publicist confirmed Tuesday that Bob Hewson, Bono's father, has died, although other details -- the time of death, Hewson's age -- aren't clear. Bono had been flying home to Dublin after each concert on the European leg of the band's ''Elevation'' tour to be at the bedside of his father, who was in his 70s and suffering from cancer.
