HITCHING POST It'll be something borrowed, something blue velvet when Kyle MacLachlan ties the knot with Desiree Gruber, a fashion publicist he met in a chiropractor's office. The couple, who have dated for two years, have set a wedding date of April 20 in Miami, Gruber's hometown. The 42-year-old actor was previously engaged to supermodel Linda Evangelista, whom he dated for six years until 1998. Let's hope his real marriage isn't as rocky as his TV marriage to Kristin Davis on ''Sex and the City.''

HIT LIST While politicians and pundits are quick to blame violence in movies, music, and video games for causing real-life violence in schools, few kids see it that way. In a survey of junior high and high school students conducted by researchers at Alfred University in Alfred, N.Y., kids said media violence wasn't even one of the top 10 causes of school violence. Revenge was the number one motive, cited by 87 percent of the students, while reaction to bullying was a close second, cited by 86 percent of the kids. Other top causes were abuse at home, access to guns, and mental problems. Only 37 percent saw media violence as a factor, ranking it at No. 11.
