NET RETURNS Old rockers never die, they just set up websites. A group of about 20 members of '70s and '80s bands like Deep Purple, Loverboy, Pablo Cruise, Starship, Rare Earth, and Mountain have formed Rockforever.com, a company that releases old and new material, handles the performers' concert bookings, and sells licensed merchandise. The site's been up for a couple years now, but it recently struck deals with MP3.com and Liquid Audio to make live and studio recordings available via streaming audio or downloadable files. Remember, in cyberspace, no one can hear you scream, ''Free Bird!''
FREE PRESS? USA Today founder Allen Neuharth killed an authorized biography after the author had spent a year working on it -- allegedly because the book was set to contain a chapter on his out-of-wedlock daughter. Rosamunda Neuharth-Ozgo, a 38-year-old sales rep from Arlington, Va., told the New York Post that she is Neuharth's daughter. She says she and her mother were both interviewed by Michael Gartner, the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and former head of NBC News who the newspaper mogul had commissioned to write the book. She says she has various legal documents that proved her claim, and that Neuharth, whom she has never met, was named her father in a 1964 paternity suit, after which he sent her $100 a month until she was 21. Neuharth, founder of the Freedom Forum, an organization that supports the press's right to free expression, wrote an autobiography, ''Confessions of an S.O.B.,'' years ago, but it did not mention an illegitimate daughter.

Nelson, whose age was variously listed as 85 or 87, was a jazz musician in the 1950s with the Prince Rogers Trio, whose name inspired him to name his son Prince Rogers Nelson. Prince alluded to his sometimes rocky relationship with his father in the semiautobiographical film ''Purple Rain.''...
Funeral arrangements for Aaliyah have her being transported today via horse-drawn hearse from the Frank E. Campbell funeral home on New York's Upper East Side to the nearby Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, where there will be a private service for 800 mourners. Fans may mourn at the public memorial at the cavernous Cipriani's 42nd Street restaurant, opposite Grand Central Terminal, where a continuous loop of Aaliyah videos will run from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today.
