SOUND BITES Oops, they left the back door unlocked. Apparently, that's how Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake left their vacation rental home in Florida vulnerable to the burglars who made off with $5,000 worth of clothes, liquor, and videotapes Saturday night. Sharp-eyed neighbors in Destin, Fla., near Pensacola, spotted four teenage boys fleeing the scene and alerted police, who arrested the youths the next morning. The items, including a video of the couple that one suspect was allegedly dubbing when police arrested him, were returned to their owners (so don't expect to see any Pamela Anderson/Tommy Lee-style shenanigans involving the self-proclaimed virgin and her boyfriend showing up on the Internet). A publicist for Spears, 19, and Timberlake, 20, was quick to point out that the pair are vacationing with their families, so the stolen liquor doesn't necessarily mean that Britney and Justin were violating drinking-age laws....

Having come out of semi-retirement to sing ''God Bless America'' on last Friday's relief telethon, Celine Dion will headline another benefit, a five-hour concert in Montreal featuring some 200 performers from Quebec. The ''Quebec-New York'' fundraiser will take place on Friday at the Molson Centre, the hockey arena that is home to the Montreal Canadiens....

Even now, some people still want to rock and roll all night and party e-ve-ry day. Or so Showtime hopes. It's hosting a pay-per-view webcast of Kiss' concert documentary ''The Last Kiss,'' followed by a live chat with Paul Stanley, on October 1 at sho.com.

REEL DEALS Busy Brittany Murphy, who costars in several movies this fall (including this weekend's ''Don't Say a Word'') has signed on to Eminem's untitled semi-autobiographical movie. ''O'' star Mekhi Phifer has also joined the cast of the film, which starts shooting on location in Slim's Detroit on October 18....

LL Cool J will join ''Two Can Play That Game'''s Gabrielle Union in ''Deliver Us from Eva,'' a romantic comedy. He'll play a ladies' man recruited by three men to distract their meddlesome sister-in-law (Union) by dating her....

Samuel L. Jackson is set to join the cast of spy thriller ''XXX,'' where he'll play mentor to extreme-sports-loving agent Vin Diesel. Diesel has also signed on to reprise his role as Riddick in the sequel to ''Pitch Black,'' his 2000 sci-fi hit. He reportedly chose to make ''The Chronicles of Riddick'' next spring over an offer to star in ''Daredevil'' as the blind Marvel Comics superhero.

CHICK PICK When EW.com reported last month in this space that Dixie Chick Martie Seidel was engaged to Irish college professor Gareth Maguire, her bandmate Natalie Maines' brother-in-law, it turns out that they had, in fact, already eloped a few days earlier. They married August 10 in Kailua, Hawaii. Now going by the name Martie Maguire, the 31-year-old fiddler issued a statement acknowledging that the wedding ''was so last minute that so many special people were not there to share it with us. But we just couldn't wait.'' She says they'll have a formal ceremony in Ireland next summer for their families.
