Nowadays, dunderhead guitar bands need a little faux compassion to buoy sales, what with multiplatinum Staind scrawling sticky valentines across their corrugated metal. Vancouver's Nickelback follow suit on a debut that combines steroid riffage with a radio-friendly dose of saccharin (''How You Remind Me'') in Silver Side Up. They're stunningly derivative, but pack just enough macho bluster to win over Mook Nation.
