As with the Holocaust-film oeuvre, seeking a fresh way to capture America's civil rights upheaval on celluloid is no small task. That actor-turned-director Clark Johnson (''Homicide'') was able to do just that in Boycott by cleverly using documentary footage, black-and-white re-creations, and fourth-wall-breaking testimonials is only one of this HBO flick's delights. The stellar cast picks up the ball from there: Jeffrey Wright's demythologizing incarnation of Martin Luther King Jr. is galvanizing enough to stand up to any of this year's Oscar hopefuls.
