Brooke White is still one of my favorites. I thought tonight was good...better than last week...but just good. Honestly, I think that Brooke might be in a little trouble this week. She sang well, but the Carole King vibe didn't work for me. However, I'm glad that Randy gave her props. Simon's analogy was, well, stupid. Seriously, a hamburger?!!
Kristy Lee Cook is a country artist. And Middle America is obviously having a hand in keeping her on the show. And tonight...well, tonight she finally proved to me that she could sell records (not that my opinion counts for anything, but I am the one writing the article). I actually think she was the best woman of the night. She sang on pitch and she made an R&B/pop ballad sound like it could sell records in a very tough country market. It's sad that it's so obvious who the producers want to keep and who they want to send home, though.
David Cook gave another great performance and one of his most inventive arrangements. The haunting, soulful rock take on ''Always Be My Baby'' was, in my opinion, one of the best moments in this season of Idol, maybe all seven seasons. He didn't really sing all that well, but the arrangement and mood of the performance more than made up for it. The judges were right on. David is a rock star and will, mark my words, sell a bunch of records. For once, one of the chosen ones is the right choice.
Jason Castro is my favorite. I am a huge fan and cannot wait to hear the record Jason puts together. I thought it was a mistake to pick a lesser-known song, but I'm not sure I would expect anything else from Jason. I thought the arrangement was nice and his performance was, in my opinion, one of his finest vocal performances. He will make a record and I will buy it. I thought Randy's opinion was off... Did he work on this song? I am, however, glad that Simon is on the Castro train!
So, that's my review. This is hard, but...my bottom 3: Brooke, David Archuleta, and Carly.
