Spring Awakening (2006)

Spring Awakening is a Rent-like rock musical where hormone-crazed kids sing earnestly about sex (''Touch Me'') and teen angst (''Totally F-----'')...set, naturally, in 19th-century Germany. A Simpsons spoof, or actual stage hit? The latter, thanks largely to co-writer Duncan Sheik, who atones for some of his less interesting solo work with the most gorgeous (and occasionally rocking-out) Great White Way score this decade. If he wants to rerelease his old CDs with this cast's tremendous voices overdubbed, he's got a sale.
