Trouble (2007)

After leaving a Manhattan hospital late one night, med student Jonah Stem comes upon a woman on the street crying for help. Without thinking, he confronts her assailant, who winds up dead. Before long, he gets tagged as ''superdoc'' and sued by the attacker's family. Then he starts an affair with the victim, who's not at all what she seems. In his second thriller, Jesse Kellerman proves himself a fluid storyteller with a gift for characterization: Jonah is compelling even when he makes stupid decisions. But though Kellerman winds up the thriller mechanics with lavish care, Trouble's climax zooms by like a hurried afterthought.
