Many years from now, scientists will invent a microscope powerful enough to tell How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Failure to Launch apart. Until then, Paramount has boxed them together, with the failed Indiana Jones-like Sahara. The Matthew McConaughey Collection banks unapologetically on the actor's sex appeal — and is packaged remarkably like an '80s workout video. There's no denying his easy guy's-guy charm or his gleaming musculature. (On the Sahara commentary, director Breck Eisner prefaces one scene with: ''This is Matthew's abs introduction.'') But for fans who remember McConaughey's tiny, weird, hilarious debut in Dazed and Confused, it's been depressing to watch him morph into the kind of generic leading man who relies on eccentric supporting players (like Zooey Deschanel and Steve Zahn) to bring the funny. The indistinguishable posters for Guy and Launch — both of which find McConaughey falling backward onto a blond starlet (Kate Hudson and Sarah Jessica Parker, respectively) — tell the whole story: Repeating yourself is deadly, and you shouldn't need anybody to prop you up.
