''The last name is pronounced like 'cute,' only with an 'n,''' Michael Kun informs the reader in one of the many footnotes that populate Corrections to My Memoirs, a motley heap of epistles, ''publisher's notes,'' and, occasionally, actual short stories. The word ''cute'' reverberates; the broad lampoons of authorial interjection, meant to be clever, only undermine Kun's subtler gifts. The funny, tender ''Her Night Classes'' is good enough to drown out the smarmy note that follows it, but too often Corrections is like having a perfectly nice dinner with someone who keeps interrupting the conversation to evaluate the date.
