From playing a late-blooming lesbian on The L Word to describing the gravitational pull of her sagging lady lumps and awkwardly imitating a runway model on The View, Shepherd has been doing some serious female bonding lately. No more so than when she ambushed Madonna on the Jan. 11 episode of the Today show. As cohost Meredith Vieira led Madge through a backstage hallway for a meeting with fans, sharp-eyed viewers could see Shepherd, who was also a guest that morning, hovering in the background by the door, ready to pounce. And that's exactly what she did, shouting, ''Hi, Madonna! It's Cybill... It's Cybill Shepherd!'' A nonplussed Madonna appeared to escape the bear hug without injury. Shepherd's dignity, however, suffered untold damage.
