Denny Doherty, one of the members of the '60s folk-rock quartet the Mamas and the Papas, died Friday following an aneurysm in his abdomen, his sister told the Associated Press. He was 66.

Along with his bandmates — John Phillips and his then-wife Michelle, and Cass Elliott — Doherty had top 10 hits in the mid-1960s with ''Monday, Monday'' and ''California Dreamin'.'' The group disbanded in 1968 in the wake of the Phillipses' divorce, but re-formed two years later. That reunion was short-lived, however, and Elliott died of a heart attack in 1974.

Following Doherty's death, Michelle Phillips is the sole surviving member of the band. (John Phillips died in 2001.)
