Writer Douglas Carter Beane has mastered the emotional fallout of human sexuality — both gay and straight — on film (1995's To Wong Foo...) and on stage (2006's Little Dog Laughed), and that thankfully saves Advice From a Caterpillar from emerging as just a racy episode of Three's Company.
