Rome, 1985. Dusty and 19 centuries past its heyday. In Ginger and Fred, graying hoofers
Amelia (Giulietta Masina) and Pippo (Marcello Mastroianni) reprise their
wartime tap act on a vulgar variety show: Catch them after the midgets,
but before the inventor of edible panties. Fellini's hostility toward TV
(commercials, he once spat, ''serve to create a race of illiterates'')
drives this film, but also makes it feel like a Cook's tour of
postmodernism and debauchery (look-alikes! A cow with 20 teats!) that's
saved by its divine leads.
EXTRAS None.
