Atlantis: Hymns for Disco (2007)

EW's GRADE
B+

Details Release Date: Feb 20, 2007; Lead Performance: k-os; Genre: Pop

Don't let the title mislead you: Disco is one of the few styles that don't turn up on k-os' third album. Instead, he experiments with lush psychedelic soul (''The Rain''), perky new wave (''Born to Run''), scrappy rockabilly (''Equalizer''), dreamy indie-pop (''Valhalla''), and guttural beatbox rhythms (''AquaCityBoy''). His lyrics aren't always as memorable as those backdrops, but Atlantis: Hymns for Disco is an exhilarating listen nonetheless — and perfect for Gnarls Barkley fans in search of a new genre-mashing fix.
