This four-disc retrospective, which collects 67 singles released by U.K. icon Paul Weller over the past three decades, peaks early: The increasingly arty punk songs he recorded with the Jam from 1977 to 1982 are as compelling as ever. The syrupy, synth-based lounge music of Weller's next band, the Style Council, hasn't aged nearly as well. His recent solo work represented here by two discs of soul-tinged Britpop is stronger, but only seriously devoted Anglophiles need this Hit Parade instead of the single-disc edition.
