Aqualung, a.k.a. young Brit Matt Hales, is second only to Coldplay's Chris Martin when it comes to cranking out soaring, falsetto-laced piano-rock ballads the kind that launch the less enthusiastic into fits of eye-rolling and sick-puppy retching, and cause devoted acolytes to shiver and swoon with pleasure. But Hales works admirably hard at selling his world on his latest, Memory Man: a place where girls are cast as fairy-tale heroines, boys are full of feelings, and pianos can totally (but gently!) rock out.
