On March 12, Michael Stipe and his band R.E.M. will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Since Stipe is famous for his sartorial risk-taking — the man has hit the stage in a pink bunny costume and a suit made out of FedEx envelopes — we hooked up some clothing options for his big night and asked him, ''So, who are you wearing?''
A Common Thread
Stipe was leaning toward a black Dior tux, but because of our ''inspiring'' shoot he might end up wearing a cream Rogan suit instead.
Lip Service
''I started doing the Blade Runner [blue eye] makeup... to present something theatrical on stage,'' explains Stipe, who'll go bare-faced to the Rock prom.
Knot Happening
''I don't want to do the rock-star takeoff on black tie because that would be embarrassing. I want to be really classy and adult.''
X-Ray Vision
Stipe snapped this shot of himself in Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses while reporting to his publicist. ''These are going home with me.''
White Out
Stipe opted against wearing white shoes. ''For Halloween, I dressed all in white, including makeup. People thought I was Powder.''
Layered Look
''I like standing out in a subtle way,'' Stipe says, referring to an orange tee. ''I got pilloried [for donning flip-flops with a suit] — but that's okay.''
