EW's GRADE
C+

If anyone has the bona fides to examine four generations of gay New York life, it's Love! Valour! Compassion! playwright Terrence McNally. But with nine men in 54 roles over eight decades, Some Men, McNally's ambitious attempt to heal the gay generation gap, feels more like a stumble than an enlightening journey. Luckily, there's Don Amendolia (Seinfeld, Twin Peaks), whose military dad in mourning and elder gay rise above the anachronistic hairstyles and gay-wedding clichés (''Friend of the groom?... Friend of the other groom?''). He gives Men the heart it's so yearning to tug.
