MOVIES
+ The Departed's Mark Wahlberg and Matt Damon can't seem to shake the Irish, Massachusetts, or each other. They're in talks to star as real-life Lowell, Mass., boxer ''Irish'' Micky Ward (Wahlberg) and his trainer brother (Damon) in The Fighter. Notes Damon: Director Darren Aronofsky (The Fountain) ''is saying everything I, or any actor, would want to hear. [Now] we're waiting for a script.''

+ Tim Burton's Ripley's Believe It or Not! is a go again, after getting derailed last June amid budget concerns and a script rewrite at the behest of lead Jim Carrey. ''This has been a long road,'' says producer Ken Atchity, ''and we're thrilled it's on track.''

TELEVISION
+ FX has finally given Shield alum Glenn Close a show of her own — this summer's legal thriller Damages. Close will play a high-stakes litigator who targets a billionaire CEO (Ted Danson). ''She's extremely powerful,'' says creator Todd A. Kessler, ''and very complicated.''
