Person Pitch (2007)

EW's GRADE

Details Release Date: Mar 20, 2007; Lead Performance: Panda Bear; Genre: Rock

Lisbon-based musician Panda Bear, a.k.a. Noah Lennox, leaves behind his fellow mammals in the critically beloved rock experimentalists Animal Collective for his third solo jaunt, Person Pitch. Alone, he proves a charming spelunker of pop-music history — especially the sunny California sound of the Beach Boys/Mamas and the Papas era (vocally, Lennox almost out-Wilsons Mr. Brian Wilson on jangly, joyful standouts ''Comfy in Nautica'' and ''Take Pills''). The result, filtered through a playful avant-garde sieve, is a lovely, trippy kaleidoscope of sound.
