Two summers after The 40 Year-Old Virgin became a smash, writer-director Judd Apatow once again cross-fertilizes raunchiness and sweetness in an R-rated comedy Knocked Up is about a stoner (Seth Rogen) who has a one-night stand with a woman way out of his league (Katherine Heigl). When she becomes preggers, the unlikely couple must muddle their way from morning sickness right through an, um, eye-opening delivery. With the 25-year-old Rogen's comedy in theaters June 1, we sought him out for some conversational intercourse.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: How does it feel to see your face on a poster under the tagline ''What if this guy got you pregnant?''
SETH ROGEN: I think it's hilarious! People should shudder in fear at the thought of my DNA growing in Katherine Heigl's body.
You do have a couple of pretty memorable sex scenes in the movie.
But they're comedic sex scenes. Any sex scene I do will be comedic. I'm not going to do, like, a Lorenzo Lamas sex scene.
You've made a quick jump to leading man. Just three years ago, you played ''Eager Cameraman'' in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Exactly! I didn't even have a name! [Laughs] If you had told me Steve Carell would become a giant movie star from 40 Year-Old Virgin, I wouldn't have believed you. Now, to have a studio dump millions of dollars into a poster with my face on it it's insane!
The early buzz is that Knocked Up could be another big breakout comedy
like Virgin. Are you prepared for that?
I don't think it's possible. There are too many other movies coming out. I mean, Knocked Up's good, but we don't have, like, f---ing pirates and people swinging from webs. [Pregnant pause] We do have vagina shots, though. They don't have that. How many vaginas are there in Shrek 3? None that I know of.
