You'd expect scares from the adaptation of a 2004 Off Broadway play about a waitress (Ashley Judd) hiding from an ex-con hubby (Harry Connick Jr.) in a motel with a Gulf War veteran (Michael Shannon) who believes the room is infected with creepy-crawlies. [But] to be frank, when I directed The Exorcist, I never saw it as a horror film, either.'' (May 25)
